Info

The Security Policy Forum St.Gallen (SPF) invites you to an engaging discussion with the Belgian Ambassador Patrick Van Gheel as part of the 2026 Security Days

Belgium and Switzerland share many similarities: both are federal states with globalized, export-driven economies and security policies shaped by their respective experiences with neutrality. Yet while Switzerland maintains its neutrality to this day, Belgium has taken a different path as a member of both the EU and NATO.

In this moderated discussion, we will explore these diverging approaches to security policy and reflect on the role of smaller European states in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape. What challenges arise as the rules-based international system comes under pressure? And what can Belgium and Switzerland learn from one another in navigating today’s uncertainties?

Join us for a timely and thought-provoking discussion on neutrality, alliances, and the future of European security.

📅 Date: Monday, 20. April 2026

🕕 Time: 14:15 - 16:00
